I used to have underfloor heating throughout the house and a huge hot water cylinder in the bedroom, which I found out later wasn’t actually working correctly anyway. That’s what heated the water and the underfloor heating heated the house.
The actual heating and water system was constantly going all the time, it never went off. It took up a lot of room where it was because it was massive. There was no real control on the temperature with the underfloor heating either. The instructions were so small on the wall next to it, and there were no thermostats anywhere else in the house to control it and it was expensive. In between January and February 2024, my monthly bill was £499.
I was looking on Facebook and I noticed the government was advertising the HUG2 schemes, I phoned the council to see if they had anything like it going. The lady said they did and she took my name and details to send the forms over, and a few days later there they were in my inbox.
The installation was fantastic. I didn’t have to clean up after, everything was covered and they vacummed after themsleves and told us exactly what was going on throughout. Richard told us when the electrician was going to turn up, when the plumber was, it was told to us stage by stage. They were all lovely lads. It went flawlessly.
The smart tub is the best thing ever because I’m partially sighted and do have trouble with switches to see what it says, especially if it’s computerised. All I have to do is open my phone, press the app and it’s there in big bold writing. I can do everything I need to do on the heaters on the app. I don’t have to go to the heaters and press any buttons. It tells you exactly what you have to do, and it’s click click click close your phone and it’s done. It’s a huge benefit because if you’re too hot you can turn it down or vice versa, and it does it instantly. You’ve got contrability at your hand, and it’s brilliant.
Now my electric charges are £210 a month, so that’s a massive saving. It gives you peace of mind not having to worry whether ‘Oh sould I dry clothes today? Is it going to make my bill higher? Am I using too much water? Is it going to make my bill higher?’ You know exactly what you’re using.
The HUG2 programme is probably one of the best things I’ve ever done, and I’m truly grateful to Richard and the boys for doing it, and of course to Shropshire Council because without it I would still be struggling.
I also want to add that sometimes when you have things done in your home once the workmen have left, they’re gone. But the aftercare I’ve received from RJW is just fantasic.
